The Basset Hound dog breed is known as a very sweet and gentle breed. The Basset is devoted, peaceful and, well-behaved. They are also known as a family dog and are great with children and small kids. The temperament of a Basset puppy should always be friendly. They are mild but not shy. This breed is also very affectionate and friendly with children. The basset Hound is known by most Basset Hound Breeders as a dog that is incapable of biting anyone or anything, yet they can be a bit set in their ways. They love to run and play and love the sound of their own voice. So be aware that your new Basset Hound pup will probably howl and bark quite a lot.
The Basset Hound is known for its distinct physical looks. With its short legs and thick body the bassets every move is planned. The basset will normally have very loose skin that will fall in folds all over the body beyond the head. The ears are very long and hang down over the head and neck area. The Bassets brown eyes should appear droopy with a sad expression that is shown kindly without any harshness. The Basset Hounds coat is a short, hard and shiny coat. The color is usually white with chestnut or sand-colored markings.
Basset hound puppies will do okay in an apartment. These pups are quite inactive inside the home and will need lots of outdoor activity on a daily basis where they can run around and play. They do not need a big yard but will need to have plenty of outside time.
