The German Shepherd Dog breed is also known as the Alsatian. The German shepherd is known for its very strong build and its muscular well proportioned body. The coat coloring for this dog breed is normally black and tan but there are also the sable colored or all black colored Germans. There is also the American White Shepherd which because of its all white unique color, is known as its own breed. The nose coloring will almost always be all black. There are three types of the German shepherd breed. There is the rough-coated, long rough-coated, and the long-haired type. German shepherds are often used as a working dog and are considered to be fearless and alert. They are seen as a cheerful and obedient dog breed. They love to learn and take to training almost instantly. The German shepherd pup is a confident puppy with tons of energy and will seem very smart. They almost seem to have a human-like intelligence. They are very capable and eager to learn. German shepherd puppies need to be around humans and the family and will be come lonely if left by themselves for a lengthy amount of time. They need to be around people to be happy. They are often times wary of strangers but will only bark when they feel it is necessary. German shepherd pups will need to be trained from an early age and will need to be overly socialized as puppies as to not carry around too much protection. They will make a great family addition as long as this socialization is started early on. It is important to purchase your German shepherd from a reputable German shepherd dog breeder, because these breeders will be able to trace the linage of the pup to see if the bloodlines show timid qualities or protective qualities. In order for this dog breed to become a good pet, the dog should be trained from an early age with a firm and loving hand. To be happy, the German shepherd needs a task. This dog breed is very smart and learns very quickly. The breed is known to be used as a sheepdog, guard dog, as well as in police work. They have also been used as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military.
