The Dalmatian dog breed was originally bred to run along the side of a horse and because of this they are filled with stamina and energy. The Dalmatian needs a purpose; they cannot just sit still all day. They are very happy and cheerful dogs. Dalmatian puppies are very playful and loyal. They like to be around humans and enjoy the companionship. Without which they may become depressed or saddened. The Dalmatian has a great memory and therefore will carry and harbor any mistreatment from the past. They like playing with children and get along well with other household pets and other dog breeds as well. The Dalmatian is very willful and can be seen as high strung. This is why getting a Dalmatian puppy from a reputable Dalmatian breeder is important. They also need to be well socialized from an early age with children and other dog breeds. The Dalmatian is known to be very intelligent. They do need good consistent training though. They are known to be good watchdogs and will protect their human family. They need to stay busy and need to be played with often. As they age they calm down a bit.

The Dalmatian has a lean look to his fame with a sleek coat and striking eyes. The nose can be dark black, brown, or liver colored. The eyes can be dark brown, amber, or blue, with an alert expression. Dalmatian puppies are born completely white and the spots develop later. The Dalmatian is not a good breed for an individual living in an apartment or small home. These dogs need lots of active time and a great deal of room to run and play. They like to stay active all the time so an apartment would hinder this. They need to be taken outside for walks or runs a few times a day but will not fair well in extreme cold temperatures because of their short thin coat.
